Be Here for East Portland for Sunday Parkways

Ride, walk, explore, shop and dine at East Portland restaurant and retail businesses at the Portland Sunday Parkways grand reopening.

After nearly two years of closure, Portland Sunday Parkways has returned ,with a car free celebration in Portland’s largest public space, it’s streets! Neighbors are invited to bike, walk, scoot, run or roll along the route as they check out featured parks! The second Sunday Parkways event will be August 21st from 11:00 – 4:00 in East Portland.

Sunday Parkways encourages Portlanders to use the neighborhood greenways which are local streets where bikes and pedestrians are prioritized to shop and dine at local small businesses as an alternative to driving to chain and big box retailers.

To promote intentional shopping and dining and support the recovery of East Portland and the Gateway, Rosewood, and Midway business districts, we'll be issuing 1,000 $50 stimulus credits, funded by the American Rescue Plan, which are spendable at local small businesses participating in Here for Portland, East Portland.

Credits will be issued through Kuto App, a local app-based payment system that promotes local spending and reduces transaction fees.

Look for the green Here for Portland tent along the route to receive a $50 stimulus credit to shop and dine locally.

Who can receive $50 in Kuto App credits?

Anyone joining the Sunday Parkways event on August 21st from 11:00am to 4:00pm can received a Kuto App gift card credit while supplies last.

Where can Here for East Portland gift card credits be spent?

Credits disbursed through this program can be spent at participating small and local restaurant and retail businesses in and around East Portland neighborhoods. They can be used for making purchases as well as for tipping frontline workers.

Small restaurant and retail businesses have been hit the hardest over the past two years so that’s where we’re encouraging intentional shopping and dining. We’re also prioritizing outreach and inclusion to address the disproportionate impact to BIPOC owned businesses, low-income entrepreneurs, food carts, and businesses impacted by break-ins and vandalism.

Here are the businesses we’ve enrolled in Here for East Portland so far:

A Better Car Dealership

Dancing Heron

EcoBaby Gear

Minuteman Press

Mixteca

Miyamoto

New Day Market

Rad Magic Subs

Roscoe's

Skema Design

Sparrow Salon

These businesses are the lifeblood of Portland’s appeal and have faced two years of revenue and customer losses while cooperating with the social distancing restrictions that have been protecting our community. It’s time for Portland to help them back!

If you discover an amazing business through Here for Portland that you want to boost and share about, please send a photo and tell us about it at smallbizstories@worksystems.org. We’ll enter you in a weekly raffle to receive another $50 Kuto App gift credit for sharing your story.
